Our Purpose
We provide:
- Accurate information on transboundary animal diseases and zoonotic diseases
- Online education for veterinary students and animal health professionals
- Tools for infection control
- Tools that local, state, and federal agencies use to prepare for animal emergencies
The CFSPH was established with funding from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2002. It is part of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, funded entirely through grants and cooperative agreements from federal and state organizations, industry and nonprofit organizations. The Institute for International Cooperation in Animal Biologics (IICAB – an OIE Collaborating Center) was established in 1995 and is part of the CFSPH.

Information
The CFSPH website contains technical fact sheets, annotated images, and PowerPoint presentations on important diseases for use by veterinary, medical and public health professionals. The website also contains disease resources designed for the general public. The www.cfsph.iastate.edu/DiseaseInfo site and affiliated sites received almost 23 million hits in 2011.
Education
The CFSPH provides online training for veterinary students, veterinarians, and animal health emergency responders. In addition we offer an online course on immunology and principles of vaccination, and we have developed the continuing education materials for the USDA National Veterinary Accreditation Program.
Infection Control
Infection control practices, when implemented correctly, are cost-effective means to reduce incidence of disease. The CFSPH provides resources for veterinarians to use in the clinic, shelter, or on the farm, resources that beef and dairy producers can implement, and a popular set of guidelines on disinfectants.
