1. Course for Veterinarians:
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- List reasons why veterinarians should assist farmed cervid producers in preventing and monitoring Chronic Wasting Disease in their herd(s).
- Demonstrate how veterinarians can participate in Iowa’s CCWDSI Program and what their responsibilities are as part of the Program.
- Explain the sample collection and submission process for CWD testing and current testing methodologies.
- Describe how to avoid poor-quality or missing samples.
- Utilize trustworthy resources to find up-to-date information about CWD.
2. Course for Cervid Producers:
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- List reasons why farmed cervid producers should prevent and monitor Chronic Wasting Disease in their herd.
- Demonstrate how producers can participate in the Iowa CCWDSI Program, what their responsibilities are as part of the Program, and advantages of participating in the Program.
- Explain the importance of submitting good quality samples for CWD testing.
- Describe how to avoid poor-quality or missing samples.
- Use trustworthy resources to find up-to-date information about CWD.
Format
The course is completely web-based and self-study. You do not need to be online at any specific time. Access the materials whenever it is convenient for you, work at your own pace.

The veterinary course has been approved by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) Registry of Approved Continuing Education (RACE®). The course is approved for 2 CE hours (non-interactive on-line; veterinarians or veterinary technicians).
Participants should be aware that some boards have limitations on the number of hours accepted in certain categories and/or restrictions on certain methods of delivery of continuing education. Please contact the AAVSB RACE® program if you have any comments/concerns regarding the validity or relevancy of this course to the veterinary profession.
Course Certificate for Producers
The cervid producer course offers freely accessible training about the Iowa Cervid CWD Surveillance Identification (CCWDSI) Program. For producers taking the course at the request of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS), you must create an account to take the end-of-course quiz. Once you successfully pass the quiz, you can download and print a course certificate of completion.
