New Book from The Livestock Project: Organic and Alternative Livestock Health: A Guide for Veterinarians, Extension, Animal Health Workers, and Animal Owners

We are thrilled to announce the publication of the free book through the Iowa State University Press. The book was written by veterinarians Katie Steneroden, Jenna Bjork, and Delaine Quaresma, with contributions from experts in the organic and alternative livestock industry, government, extension, and producers themselves.

About the Book

The book originated as a continuing education series for animal health professionals who have traditionally lacked formal education or training in these topics. Over 400 individuals received 700 hours of free continuing education from 2020-2024. Content includes:

  • Organic farming and how animal professionals fit in
  • Rules and regulations, and certification
  • Human, animal, and environmental benefits of organic
  • Communication and practice management aspects for veterinarians
  • Treatments and modalities used by organic and alternative farmers
  • Treatment guide with simple treatments
