Managing an Animal Disease Response:
An Introductory Course for State/Tribal Animal Health Officials and their Staff

State and Tribal Animal Health Officials (SAHOs) have a unique leadership role in managing their State’s/Tribe’s response to an animal disease outbreak.  This course is designed to provide new State Animal Health Officials (SAHOs) Assistant SAHOs, and others involved in leading animal disease responses with the essential background and information about their roles and responsibilities in leading and managing an animal disease response.

This course will introduce :

  • Animal disease response (ADR) terminology
  • Main concepts of ADR, such as state and federal authority, initiating a response, communication, and critical response activities.

The course consists of 6 Chapters divided into lessons covering different concepts in ADR.  The text of each lesson can be downloaded as a pdf.  The end of each chapter contains a list of all the resources referred to in the lesson.  The participant workbook is designed to be a tool to help participants record and organize important things learned in the course.
