Abstract Submission and Preparation Instructions
Submission Deadline: Abstract submission is closed. Please contact IABC secretariat for further information.
The 2nd International Aquaculture Biosecurity Conference encourages the submission of high quality oral and poster presentations before May 15th, 2011. All abstracts must be in English, the official language of the conference. All presenters are required to register for the Conference.
Please submit your abstracts as PDF (portable document format) documents* formatted strictly according to the instructions below. Please email your abstract as a PDF attachment to iabcsec "at" iastate.edu. All abstracts must conform to the following guidelines in order to be considered for acceptance. The corresponding author will be informed of acceptance by the Technical Coordination Committee on or before June 1st, 2011.
*PDF documents can be produced using a variety of different software, including most office software packages. Some PDF creation programs are also available at no cost (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PDF_software).
Preferred Format: Indicate if Oral or Poster presentation is preferred and indicate preferred session (see below). The Technical Organization Committee will make the final decision on the format and session for the presentation and inform the corresponding/presenting author.
Title of Paper: The abstract title should be printed in CAPITAL LETTERS, with the exception of scientific names which should be upper/lower case and italicized. Scientific names should not be preceded or followed by commas or parentheses or other markings.
Author(s): Type author names in regular upper/lower case. Use * after the presenting author.
Address and Mail: Type only the presenting author's institution, address and email. Type in regular upper/lower case.
Maximum Length: One page
Page Size: Standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper (portrait) format
Margins: 1-inch (2.54 cm) margin throughout (left/right/top/bottom)
Spacing: Single spaced
Paragraphs: Paragraphs should be separated by a blank line and should not be indented.
Fonts: Character fonts should be 12 point type Times Roman or equivalent in black text color.
Figures and Tables: Figures and tables can be included, providing that the following requirements are met: figures and tables should be reduced to the appropriate size for a one page abstract and should be clearly readable at the reduced size in black & white print only.
Instructions for Poster Presentation Preparation
1. The area for mounting each poster is 1.4 m (approx. 55 inches) high x 1.0 m (approx. 40 inches) wide and are made of material that will accept mounting hooks (provided by the Conference Organizers).
2. Posters must be prepared in advance, in English (the official language of the Conference) with text sizes large enough to be viewed from a distance of one meter (approx. 3 ft). Title and author names should be large enough to be easily read at two meters (approx. 6 ft).
3. Drawings and charts should be clear and simple.
4. Authors are required to mount their posters before 10 a.m., August 14th. (The poster area will
be open August 13, 13:00 – 17:00). The material should be removed the last day of the Conference after the last session (August 15th, by 18:00).
5. Authors are expected to be at their poster during the assigned time periods (breaks).

Instructions for Oral Presentation Preparation
The ORAL presentations can be up to 15 minutes in length, including time for questions and
answers. Session moderators will strictly enforce the 15 minute requirement. Oral presentations
should be in English, the official language of the conference. The use of visual aids (Power point
slides or similar) is preferred. Due to technical reasons, we cannot accommodate transparencies/foils or other means of visual aids that cannot be uploaded to a personal computer
and projected on the screen.
There will be limited number of Oral presentations. Each presentation will be assigned to the specific session, based on the determination by the Technical Organization Committee. The presenting author can indicate preference for one or more sessions listed below:
1. Components of Ideal Biosecurity Plans and Programs
2. Determining and Mitigating Critical Control Points and Risks of Disease Introduction
3. Surveillance, Monitoring and Determining Disease Status/Freedom
4. Diagnostic Testing, Veterinary and Farm Record Keeping
5. National and International Biosecurity Strategies
6. Contingency Plans for the Control and Eradication of Disease
7. Immunoprophylaxis in Biosecurity Plans and Programs
Upon formal acceptance of the Oral presentation, the presenting author will be asked to upload the presentation to a dropbox folder on the Internet, and to bring a copy of the presentation in PowerPoint format on a removable hard drive, CD, or memory stick.
