Factors to Consider in Using Vaccination as an aid for Control and Eradication of Avian Influenza
The USDA provided funding to develop four video presentations on using vaccination for H5N1 avian influenza. The intent is to provide facts and expert opinion on the value, risks, and process of vaccination for the control of H5N1 avian influenza to policy decision makers and field operations personnel.
- Presentation 1 is a general overview which covers social, economic and scientific factors that impact the decision to use vaccination.
- Presentation 2 is designed for veterinary and agriculture officials and contains more technical information on the avian influenza virus and complexities of vaccination.
- Presentation 3 covers management of vaccination campaigns for avian influenza, and is designed for those involved in the vaccination campaign.
- Presentation 4 covers vaccines and diagnostic tests for avian influenza and is designed for those who will select vaccines and diagnostic tests to be used in an H5N1 avian influenza control program.
Sixteen avian influenza experts agreed to be videotaped while discussing their area of expertise. Those presentations are available on this website as well. Additional resources are also available.
