Computer Help

Question:
Why will the first two links in each course open a popup, but the remaining links will not?

Answer:
This problem is caused by having multiple popup blockers running simultaneously on Internet Explorer. Many people have a Google, MSN, AOL, Yahoo!, etc. toolbar on their browser, each providing a handful of features including popup blocking. Some users may even have multiple toolbars. Users must make sure that each toolbar allows pop-ups to our site.

Additionally, newer versions of Internet Explorer also have a built-in pop-up blocker. Please be certain that the Internet Explorer allows pop-ups from our website as this seems to be the source of the problem

Pictured in the graphic below, a user trying to access one of the CFSPH courses has a Google toolbar. The Google pop-up blocker has been set to permit pop-ups from this site. However, Internet Explorer is still suppressing the pop-ups as indicated by the highlighted alert bar at the top of the page that says "Pop-up blocked. To see this pop-up or additional options click here...." when the user tries to select one of the modules.

If you see the same alert bar on your computer, use the following instructions to suppress Internet Explorer's popup blocker when using our website. First, use your mouse to click on the alert bar. You will then see the following choices:

Select "Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site..." A small window will open asking you to verify that you want to allow pop-ups from ".cfsph.iastate.edu". Select "Yes".

Finally, another small window will open warning you about resending information. Simply press "Retry". Immediately the module you selected will open and you can proceed.
