Veterinarians: Overview of BRM
Biological
Risk Management (BRM) is a term used to describe the
overall process of evaluating a veterinary clinic or
livestock operation based on the risk of infectious disease
entry and spread. These resources have been developed
to enable a veterinarian to evaluate their clinic or
their client’s animal facility, identify opportunities
for improvement, and provide management recommendations
to decrease disease risk.
To become familiar with biological risk management, we recommend that you start by reading the “Overview of BRM” document. Then select your species focus area: beef, dairy or equine, or veterinary practice: mobile or stationary to refresh your knowledge of general management practices.
Next, register for the online database. Registration is free, but must be approved by a CFSPH staff member. You will receive an email telling you if your registration is approved.
Register now to utilize the online database and have access to:
- ASSESSMENT QUESTIONS to identify strengths and weaknesses for infectious disease entry or spread on beef, dairy or equine operations; veterinarians can even evaluate their stationary or mobile clinic.
- Several different REPORTS:
- Management recommendations provide guidance when implementing improvements.
- Current prevention practices highlight areas of strength.
- Routes of transmission charts are generated based on all responses to identify which routes are most neglected by the operation and identify opportunities for improvement.
