CDC Specialty Center

The Center for Food Security and Public Health is a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Center for Public Health Preparedness for Veterinary Medicine and Zoonotic Diseases. We are the only Center for Public Health Preparedness to focus on veterinary medicine and zoonotic diseases.

The Centers for Public Health Preparedness (CPHP) work with the CDC and the Association of Schools of Public Health to compile national preparedness resources, to leverage technical and intellectual resources and to promote use of these resources. The 40 CPHPs are a unique partnership between accredited schools of public health, dentistry schools, medical schools, and veterinary schools and state and local health departments. The CPHPs provide model public health practice curricula, information and training to support preparedness for bioterrorism, disease outbreak investigation, and other public health emergencies; and support CDC's strategic vision of a competent workforce able to deliver essential public health services.

Visit the CPHP website at http://emergency.cdc.gov/training/cphp/

The Resource Center, http://www.asph.org/acphp/phprc.cfm, contains information on products developed by specific centers within schools of public health, the CDC-funded Centers for Public Health Preparedness, and the HRSA-funded Public Health Training Centers, which focus on workforce development. Areas of focus are bioterrorism, emergency preparedness, and other public health threats and emergencies.

The mission of the CFSPH is to increase national preparedness for accidental or intentional introduction of disease agents that threaten food production or public health.
