Gayle B. Brown, DVM, PhD

Dr. Brown received her DVM in 1986 from the University of Illinois and her MS in Immunobiology from ISU in 1989. She developed a swine influenza vaccine while working for SyntroVet Inc. in Lenexa KS. Dr. Brown returned to Iowa State University and received her PhD in immunology in 1999. From 1999-2002 Dr. Brown was a relief veterinarian for Novartis Animal Health, Professional Services. She returned to ISU as an assistant director for the CFSPH in 2002.


Cheryl Eia, JD, DVM, MPH

Dr. Eia received a DVM from Iowa State University and an MPH from the University of Minnesota in 2008. Prior to attending veterinary school, she earned a JD from St. Louis University School of Law and practiced law for approximately 10 years. She also holds a BA degree in Political Science from Minnesota State University, Moorhead. She joined the Center for Food Security and Public Health in 2008.


Kevan Flaming, DVM, PhD

Dr. Flaming received his DVM and MS from Kansas State University in 1988.  He received a PhD in Immunobiology from Iowa State University in 1995.  He worked as an Instructional Development Specialist in the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine to improve teaching and learning in the college.  Outcomes assessment was a focus of much of Dr. Flaming’s work.  He joined the Center for Food Security and Public Health in 2008.


Ratree Platt, DVM, PhD

Dr. Platt received her DVM from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand in 1979, a Vet.Med.Lic. in Veterinary Virology from Swedish University of Agricultural Science, Uppsala, Sweden in 1991 and a Ph.D. in Veterinary Microbiology from Iowa State University in 2000. She was a faculty member in Veterinary Microbiology at Chulalongkorn University for 16 years. Dr. Platt currently works with faculty in the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine to design, conduct and report on experiments involving immune functions of livestock. She manages many projects in the immunology laboratory and provides input and assistance for a number of CFSPH activities.


Anna Rovid Spickler, DVM, PhD

Veterinary Specialist

Dr. Spickler received her DVM from the University of California, Davis in 1989 and PhD in immunology from ISU in 1995. She was an assistant professor at Shippensburg University from 1995 to 1997 and taught immunology, microbiology and general biology courses to undergraduates. Since 1997, she has been a freelance medical and science writer. Past projects include contributions to CFSPH projects at ISU and to the "Awesome Science of Biology" series from Biotech Publishing, the Gale Encyclopedia of Cancer and the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine.


 

The mission of the CFSPH is to increase national preparedness for accidental or intentional introduction of disease agents that threaten food production or public health.
