Dr. Dvorak graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University, in 2001. She earned her BS degree in Zoology (Minor in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology) in 1995 from ISU. She also holds an MS degree in Fisheries Biology Aquaculture, from ISU. After graduating from veterinary school, she practiced in a small animal clinic in Indianola, Iowa. Dr. Dvorak received her MPH degree from the University of Iowa, College of Public Health in May 2003 and has been employed as a veterinary specialist at the Center for Food Security and Public Health since.


Kevan Flaming, DVM, PhD

Dr. Flaming received his DVM and MS from Kansas State University in 1988.  He received a PhD in Immunobiology from Iowa State University in 1995.  He worked as an Instructional Development Specialist in the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine to improve teaching and learning in the college.  Outcomes assessment was a focus of much of Dr. Flaming’s work.  He joined the Center for Food Security and Public Health in 2008.


Anna Rovid Spickler, DVM, PhD

Dr. Spickler received her DVM from the University of California, Davis in 1989 and PhD in immunology from ISU in 1995. She was an assistant professor at Shippensburg University from 1995 to 1997 and taught immunology, microbiology and general biology courses to undergraduates. Since 1997, she has been a freelance medical and science writer. Past projects include contributions to CFSPH projects at ISU and to the "Awesome Science of Biology" series from Biotech Publishing, the Gale Encyclopedia of Cancer and the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine.


Tegwin K. Taylor, DVM, MPH

Dr. Taylor received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 2003. She practiced small animal medicine with Flying Cloud Animal Hospital in Eden Prairie, MN through 2004. She started a residency in Veterinary Preventive Medicine and Public Health with the University of Minnesota in 2005 and continued to practice with Pet Central Animal Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Dr. Taylor completed her residency and Master of Public Health in January of 2007, then joined the Center for Food Security and Public Health staff as a Veterinary Specialist.

The mission of the CFSPH is to increase national preparedness for accidental or intentional introduction of disease agents that threaten food production or public health.
