Mrs. Buhrow assists the Center Director with all aspects of budgeting, accounting and expenditure of funds. She ensures that all policies and procedures of Iowa State University and funding agencies are met. Mrs. Buhrow also coordinates and manages scientific conferences and international meetings.

Kristen Bretz, MS, BA

Program Coordinator

Kristen Bretz received her MS in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012. She also received BA in both Biology and Philosophy from Wake Forest University in 2009. Kristen currently provides coordination for CFSPH and the National Preparedness and Incident Coordination Center for USDA APHIS out of Veterinary Services’ Raleigh, NC, location. Previously, she worked for a non-profit consulting firm supporting USDA APHIS. She also was an editor for the journal BioResources, taught science with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and was a research and veterinary assistant.

Jane Galyon, MS, BS

Mrs. Galyon received her BS in Psychology in 1982 and her MS in Journalism and Mass Communication in 1987 from ISU. She assists in coordinating Center activities and works with the Center Director to maintain and expand funding for CFSPH activities. She has led the project to translate the EEDA course and other materials into Spanish for delivery in Latin America.

Caitlin Jandegian, MPH, BS

Program Coordinator

Ms. Caitlin Jandegian received her MPH with an emphasis in Veterinary Public Health from the University of Missouri in 2013. Previously, she received her BS in Environmental Science with a minor in Animal Science from Louisiana Tech University. She currently provides CFSPH support at the USDA Animal and Plant Inspection Service (APHIS) National Preparedness and Incident Coordination Center on Foreign Animal Disease Preparedness and Response materials, in addition to national incident reporting. Prior to joining CFSPH, she worked for a not-for-profit consulting firm where she originally began her work at USDA APHIS in Riverdale, Maryland. Caitlin also has a research background analyzing environmental endocrine disruptors in turtles and fish, and was a veterinary technician for 7 years.

Connie Scovin, BA

Program Coordinator


Mrs. Scovin coordinates the access of corporations and associations to the books, courses and expertise available through the Center for Food Security and Public Health. She joined the Center in 2011 after many years of experience in corporate marketing, communications and philanthropy. Mrs. Scovin received her BA in Journalism and English from the University of Iowa in 1972.

Thomas Skadow received his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville in 1986. He has been working in Dr. Roth’s research laboratory since 1989 and assists in all research and management activities of the laboratory.
